Omar plays Assane Diop, which is based on the famous fictional character of the gentleman thief from the 1905 short stories of Maurice Leblanc. He wrote many fascinating novels and stories in his lifetime but this character outlived all of his works. The real name of the character was Arsene Lupin but when a politician with the same name protested against it the name changed to Arsene Lupin.

Assane is a gentleman thief whose father came to France as an immigrant from West Africa in search of a better life and there he was framed by his corrupt boss Hubert Pellegrini for stealing his expensive diamonds. . He gives his son a book to read which inspires him to become a gentleman thief.
