The senior Diop is framed by his corrupt and selfish boss for stealing an expensive diamond and when Assane’s father is not able to prove himself innocent he is jailed after which he commits suicide due to shame and disgust.

Before dying he gives Assane a book to read and the book inspires Assane to become a gentleman thief. Assane grows up to be a thief that steals like the fictional character Arsene Lupin. Assane uses his mastery over theft to steal and he also decides to get his father’s revenge from his boss Pellegrini.
